The ARE Smart Design Studios consists of two major computer clusters, each part of the local network domain that serves the needs of the architectural engineering program. Each of the clusters has an average of 12 Pentium class computers, connected to a server. The computers are loaded with the most recent industry standard application software. All the clusters are connected to the university-wide network. The Smart Studios also have large format plotters for hard copy production and are capable of utilizing projectors with projection screens available. The Smart Studios are a focus of activity for the department as they support both the teaching of design and other related courses such as working drawings and graphics. The studios afford ARE students the opportunity to improve their design and drafting skills using the latest technology that is available.

 

​The Smart Design Studios offer a distinguished service to the student in using the computers in the Architectural design, Acoustics, and Illumination systems and provide the modeling programs used in evaluating the thermal performance of a building and energy use and conservation. The studios also contain several printers and scanners for the typical day-to-day needs of the students who prepare and print their assignments using the studios as a reference point for academic activity.
